Job Summary

The director’s role is part-time, approximately three days a week. All GOHOP Staff raise their own support. In addition to personal support the Executive Director raises, he or she will receive a small monthly stipend. 


Description 

The Greater Ontario House of Prayer (GOHOP) is a praying community that follows Jesus through shared spiritual rhythms.  As part of a larger, global prayer expression within 24-7 Prayer, we exist to serve and equip the Church and do our part to create, nurture and sustain a local, Hamilton expression of prayer.  

  • As a house of prayer ‘for all nations’ we are called to practice and champion rhythms of personal and corporate prayer in a way that celebrates the diversity of prayer in the Global church, past and present.

Role Summary

As Director, you will give leadership and oversight to this vibrant, urban, monastic community, working closely with the board, the staff, and the broader community to call and equip the Church to pray and become more like Jesus. Your responsibilities will include:  

  • championing the mission, vision and values of GOHOP 

  • leading the staff team 

  • fundraising for personal support and operational needs 

  • working with the GOHOP board

  • networking with congregations, other ministries and organizations

  • overseeing GOHOP’s operations 


Key Responsibilities 

1. Leadership & Vision: The ED has the leadership responsibility to champion the values, vision and mission of GOHOP to all its various stakeholders (staff, companions, volunteers, board, donors, etc).  He or she is called to inspire and motivate others to embrace a lifestyle of prayer and formation and to ignite and nurture a local movement of prayer in Hamilton, Ontario. A key part of this involves leadership and active involvement with the GOHOP staff team, connecting with volunteer leaders and working with the GOHOP Board.   

2. Coordination and Networking: Through winsome and servant-like collaboration, the ED is responsible for working collaboratively to fulfill the mission of GOHOP.  The ED establishes, cultivates, and sustains relationships and partnerships with local churches, ministries and organizations, and 24-7 Prayer in Canada, the US, and abroad. 

 3. Fundraising: The ED is responsible for raising the funds necessary to resource the organization which includes the ED's salary. 

4. Operations: The ED is responsible to execute or oversee all the organizational duties necessary to keep GOHOP in good standing with donors, CRA and the government of Ontario.   The ED is responsible for accurate, timely and clear communications, donor management, financial reporting and record-keeping. 

Minimum Job Requirements, Qualifications and Skills 

  • A deep personal commitment to a vibrant prayer life and intimate relationship with God. 

  • Whole-hearted adherence to GOHOP’s Values and Beliefs (https://www.gohop.ca/beliefs

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with a proven track record of leading and coordinating teams or projects.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and engage diverse audiences. 

  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles (prayer, mission, justice, hospitality, learning and creativity) and practices (prayer practices, retreat, sabbath, spiritual direction, fasting, spiritual rhythms) of 24-7 Prayer and the ability to teach and train others in these areas. 

  • Networking abilities to build and maintain relationships with churches, organizations, and prayer networks. 

  • Experience in event planning, promotion, and public speaking.

  • Proficient in using digital tools and platforms for communication and marketing purposes. 

  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. 

  • As able, attend bi-annual 24-7 Prayer International gatherings and bi-annual regional gatherings. Attend annual national leaders’ gatherings. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep personal commitment to creating and following a personal Rule of Life compatible with the values and vision of GOHOP

  • Prior experience in leading or participating in a 24-7 prayer community. 

  • Familiarity with the Canadian Church landscape and existing prayer networks.

  • Theological training in a related field (e.g., theology, ministry, spiritual formation)
